CANDLE CARE & SAFETY
Candle TLC
Caring for your candle is just as important as enjoying the scent and sanctuary it creates. By following proper candle care practices, you’ll ensure your candle burns safely, beautifully, and lasts as long as possible.
Learn how to care for your candle below:
on the
FIRST BURN
Ensure you are burning for a minimum of 3-4 hours, or until the melt pool covers the entire diameter of the candle. This ensures an even burn and prevents your candle from tunneling each time it's lit.
Tunneling happens when a candle burns straight down the center, creating a deep, circular well or "tunnel" of melted wax, while a hard ring of unmelted wax remains around the edge of the container.
A MAXIMUM BURN OF
4 HOURS AT A TIME
After the first burn of your candle, do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
This helps maintain safety when burning, as a prolonged burn could lead to potential hazards. It also helps maintain the quality of the essential oils, allowing you to enjoy a cleaner, stronger scent throughout the life of your candle.
ALWAYS
TRIM THE WICK
The wick should be trimmed to 5mm BEFORE each burn.
You can do this with wick trimmers or a pair of scissors from your kitchen. A quick cut is recommended to avoid any loose wick debris falling into the wax, while also preventing wick mushrooming and helping your candle burn cleaner and more evenly.
Wick 'mushrooming' also known as 'clubbing', is when carbon builds at the top of the wick during burning.
STOP BURNING WHEN
5MM OF WAX REMAINS
It's important to stop burning your candle at the right time - this is when 5mm of wax is left at the bottom of your container.
Our wicks are fixed in with wax, as we do not like to use adhesives in our candles. These may become loose if the candle is burnt too low, which may adjust the position of the wick resulting in it touching the container.
THe WICK SHOULD BE
UPRIGHT, ABOVE WAX & CENTRE
Once you've snuffed out your candle, ensuring your wick is above the melted wax level, upright and centered is key for future burns.
Whilst the wax is still melted, the wick can be moved easily, without a lot of pressure.
Always use a tool to move the wick, do not touch hot wax with bare hands as this could cause injury.
LET YOUR CANDLE
COOL COMPLETELY
Always let your candle cool completely before re-lighting.
This allows the wax structure to lock in the scent and stops it burning off too quickly, encouraging even burning, prevents tunnelling and the container becoming too hot.
ALWAYS REPLACE
THE CANDLE LID
After each use, replace the candle lid, this prevents dust and dirt gathering in your candle and also preserves that special scent.
Candle Safety
Following candle safety is important for protecting yourself, your family, friends, pets, and home while ensuring your candle burns safely and effectively.
You'll receive a candle care & safety card with your order.
Learn how to GLOW safely below:
NEVER LEAVE A BURNING CANDLE UNATTENDED
A burning candle should always remain within sight while in use. Leaving a candle unattended increases the risk of accidents, fire hazards, or the flame coming into contact with nearby objects. Always extinguish your candle before leaving the room.
WHEN 5MM OF WAX REMAINS
DO NOT BURN
Discontinue use once approximately 5mm of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Burning beyond this point can cause the container to overheat, potentially leading to damage to surfaces or the candle jar itself.
ALWAYS
EXTINGUISH COMPLETELY
Always ensure the flame is fully extinguished before going to sleep or leaving the room. A candle should never be left burning unattended, even for a short period of time, as open flames can become a safety risk very quickly.
ALWAYS BURN
ON A LEVEL & HEAT RESISTANT SURFACE
Always place your candle on a stable, flat and heat resistant surface before lighting. This helps prevent the candle from tipping over and protects furniture or surfaces from any potential heat damage during use.
DO NOT MOVE A BURNING CANDLE
Never attempt to move a candle while it is lit or while the wax remains hot and liquid. Moving a burning candle can cause hot wax to spill, increase the risk of burns, or cause the flame to flicker unpredictably.
ALWAYS KEEP OUT OF REACH
FROM CHILDREN & PETS
Candles should always be kept safely out of reach of children and pets. Curious hands or accidental knocks can cause burns, spills, or tip the candle over, creating a potential fire hazard.
ALWAYS KEEP AWAY FROM
FLAMMABLE MATERIALS & OBJECTS
Always burn candles away from flammable items such as curtains, bedding, paper, books, decorations, or furniture. Keep the area around the candle clear to allow for a safe and clean burn.
Make sure to GLOW safely!
